I’ve recently been getting hooked on listening to podcasts. Below are a few of my current podcast favorites. I don’t listen to any gaming podcast, I guess I get my fill of game talk from the NyX Grrls. Share any of your favorites @NyXGrrls on Twitter or on our Facebook page.

We’re Alive
A zombie related audio drama series following a group of survivors based in Los Angeles. The storyline will keep you on your toes and the zombies are not your average mindless brain eating dimwits. Follow their fight to stay alive, save survivors, and shoot some zombie booty. Plus it’s filled with helpful survival tips, because we all know the world will end from a zombie or cylon attack.

The Moth
Stories told live and without notes. These stories will make you laugh, cry, and questioning how boring your life really is.

This American Life
A great mix of true stories about everyday people. Each episode has a theme and a variety of stories on that theme. There are also 2 great seasons on Netflix instant watch.

Stuff You Should Know
Have you ever been sitting with a group of people and the dreaded awkward silence happens? After listening to this podcast you’ll be able to prevent any awkward silence. Topics range from “How Shrunken Heads Work” to “Who are the Amish?” Granted the people around your table might think you’re weird, but what the hell. You can either discuss how to shrink a human head or talk about their cats for the next 2 hours.

TED Talks
This podcast is geared 100% to my techie nerd side, which covers about 87% of my body. TED Talks is all about spreading ideas and inspiration. They offer a vast range of inspiring speakers and subject matter. The three main subjects deal with technology, entertainment and design.

Netflix Instant Watch Favorites

All of us girls at NyX love Netflix. For most of my life, I’ve lived under a rock, where cable doesn’t exist. So getting Netflix was pretty much life changing. Now and then one of the NyX members will share their recent favorite from their Netflix instant watch. Here are some movies/tv series on the top of my list.

Dollhouse

The show revolves around a corporation called the Dollhouse. The corporation programs individuals “dolls” with temporary personalities and skills. Their memories are erased upon the completion of their assignments.

This American Life Season 1 and Season 2

This American Life are stories from a weekly public radio. It’s hard to explain, but there’s a theme for each episode, and a mix of stories on that theme. Some stories will make you laugh, some will make you cry and other will leaving you wondering why. The stories are mostly true, and told by everyday people. After you’ve finished the two seasons, I’d check out the podcast.

Monster Camp

An intriguing documentary following a group of Live Action Role Playing individuals based in Seattle. Everyone looks for ways to escape reality; the individuals in the film built a world that lets them transform into mythic creatures or powerful sorcerers, even if it is for only a few days.

Lie To Me

The series is inspired by the scientific discoveries of a real-life psychologist who can read clues in the human face, body language and voice that expose the truth and lies in criminal investigations. Warning: this show will make you start to question if everyone is lying to you.

Eat Pray Love

The girls are going to give me a hard time for posting this one. I have my days where all I want to do is watch a darn good chick flick and this film was my most recent.

Confessions Of a Superhero

Documentary following the lives of four mortal men and women who work as characters on the sidewalks of Hollywood Boulevard.

Cloudy With A Chance Of Meatballs

It’s weird, but in a good way.

Pay If Forward

An oldie, but a goodie. A boy attempts to make the world a better place.

Battlestar Galactica

On a side note, Netflix has signed a multi-year deal with Lionsgate to bring their first of four seasons of Mad Men to instant streaming beginning July 27.
