The day had finally arrived, and I was in my local Gamestop picking up my copy of Modern Warfare 3. I overheard a few gamers talking about the new game and how it’s pretty much a $60.00 map pack for Black Ops. Walking out of the store I looked down at my purchase and began to question if they could be right. I loved Modern Warfare 2. My relationship with Black Ops was a little rocky. There was always something just a little off with Black Ops. After playing an hour of the MW3 campaign I was hooked. The multi-player brought me back to MW2, which is exactly what I was looking for. So what’s the big difference between Modern Warfare 3 and it’s predecessors?

To be honest, not a whole lot, but did we really want a totally different game? I think they could have made changes to make the game stand out from the rest of the Call Of Duty family. For one the MW3 menu looks exactly like MW2. I wish we had more control over customization of our character and emblems. The emblems have gone back to standard images like those used in MW2. I’m sure we all have a wish list of what we’d like to see in the game and I could nit pick the game to death, but at the end of the day it’s still the game sitting in my disc tray. There’s little tweaks here and there that do bring new life to the game. Plus a few added kill streaks, weapons and perks. I like the addition of prestige awards. My favorite award is the ability to pick a weapon that will remain unlocked after going prestige. The addition of different classes for kill streaks (assault, support, and specialist) is great and if used right can make your team unstoppable. Being a Juggernaut made me feel like Robocop roaming the streets destroying anything in my path. The satisfaction of someone falling for a rigged care package always brings a smile to my face.

The storyline of the campaign is engaging and had me daydreaming at work till 5:00 rolled around. Survivor & Special Ops Missions are fun and provide a nice break from multi-player. I wish they offered a four person co-op vs two. Xbox Live multi-player will provide hours and hours of game play.

The gamers in Gamestop had different expectations for the game than myself. Modern Warfare 3 is an exceptional game and I’m sure I’ll be glued to the TV screen for countless hours. You’ll be disappointed if you’re thinking it’s going to be a totally different experience than MW2 or Black Ops. If you’re a die hard fan of the Modern Warfare series then I think you’ll understand why a few little tweaks is all the game really needed to keep the series going.

Does the Xbox Kinect beat the Nintendo Wii? In the past few day’s, this is a question we’ve been asked multiple times. Before I share our opinion, I’ll give you a little background on myself and my boyfriend. I’m 25, he’s 28, and the Xbox 360 is our main console. We both favor FPS and racing games, more often than not we play over Xbox Live with a group of friends . When the Nintendo Wii first came out we were so amped to try it out we camped out in a Target parking lot to make sure we were one of the first people to have the console. We started out with only the Wii Play game that the console came with, and we were both impressed with the technology. Soon after, the Wii became only a system we would play when we had friends over. Later on, we purchased the Wii Fit thinking it would be a fun way to workout minus the commute to the gym. Just as quickly that started to gather dust. The Wii didn’t offer the community game play that we preferred. Over all we were unhappy with the user experience and games offered for the system.

We didn’t camp out in a Target parking lot for the Kinect, but after a few days of listening to friends over Live talk about their experiences, we had to have it! The Kinect seemed to be a perfect match for us, offering similar games that we enjoyed on the Wii, but also gameplay over Xbox Live and achievements. Not having to worry about throwing your controller though the TV was just a bonus. It comes with Kinect Adventure and we purchased Kinect Sports and Your Shape Fitness Evolved. Both of us are impressed with how responsive it is, not only with motion, but also with voice commands. There was no lag when playing with friends over Xbox Live, with the built in microphone it almost made it feel like they were in the room with us. It was fun to see friends Xbox avatars being used in gameplay. There are similarities between Kinect and the Wii, but with Kinects ability to read your every movement, there was just no comparison with a game like Your Shape Fitness Evolved vs the Wii Fit. We might just be in a honeymoon phase with Kinect, but at the moment we’re in love and are excited to see where Microsoft will take it. Individual game reviews will be coming soon.

Kinect

Pros:

Reaction time
You being the controller
Built in microphone
Voice control

Cons:

Easier way to share highlight reels instantly.
Temporarily missing ability to control Netflix
Inability to control the main Xbox dashboard, but having to use the Kinect Hub.
Currently only 17 Kinect games are available

Wii

Pros:

Download classic Nintendo games
Inexpensive
Tons of games to choose from

Cons:

The standard controller doesn’t accurately translate your motion
Online play
Not high-def

You remember the first time Spiderman’s spidey sense kicked in? He was a little overwhelmed at first, but with time he came to understand his gift. Well that’s how I felt when I first used my Turtle Beach Ear Force X1 headset. At first I was overwhelmed, but I was hooked after a few games. I’m not going to say Turtle Beach Ear Force X1 is the best headset, but you can’t beat the price tag of $59.95.

PROS
Super Adjustable, padded headband
Chat and in game audio
USB powered from the Xbox 360
Inline amplifier, mute. and volume control
Separate controls for game and chat volumes
16 feet of cable
Also works with PC games . (Also will work with Itunes on Macs)

CONS
Tons of wires
Background static when the volume is turned up
Background static when sending outgoing messages
Personally I’m not crazy about the overall appearance of the product
